Trauma & Attachment Therapy with Kerry Courtney

You may have spent years appearing to cope whilst struggling with anxiety, low self-worth, people pleasing or repeating the same relationship patterns.

I specialise in working with trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD and attachment difficulties. Trauma can stem from a single event, difficult relationships, childhood experiences or experiences that have built up over time. Whatever the cause, therapy can help you make sense of your experiences, understand your responses and develop new ways of moving forward.

Our Specialities

    Trauma & PTSD

Traumatic experiences can continue to affect how we think, feel and respond long after the event has passed. Together, we can explore the impact of trauma, helping you better understand your responses and develop ways of coping that feel safer and more manageable.

    Attachment & Relationship Patterns

Early relationships can shape how we view ourselves and connect with others. Therapy can help you understand recurring patterns, difficulties with boundaries, people-pleasing and relationship challenges, supporting you to develop healthier ways of relating.

    Anxiety & Coping Strategies

When we spend long periods adapting to difficult experiences, managing stress or living in survival mode, anxiety and feeling emotionally overwhelmed can become part of daily life. Therapy can help you understand these responses and develop healthier ways of coping.

Our Services

Trauma Therapy

Supporting adults affected by trauma, attachment wounds, abuse, PTSD and C-PTSD. Together, we'll explore the lasting impact of difficult experiences, helping you better understand your responses, recognise recurring patterns and develop healthier ways of coping. Therapy is not about erasing the past, but understanding how it continues to affect you in the present.

Individual Counselling

You may be struggling with anxiety, low self-worth, people-pleasing, relationship difficulties or feeling stuck in patterns you don't fully understand. Counselling offers a confidential space to explore your experiences, increase self-awareness and develop a stronger understanding of yourself and your needs. Together, we'll work towards meaningful and lasting change at a pace that feels right for you.

Counselling Supervision

Clinical supervision for trainee and qualified counsellors. My supervision practice is informed by a Humanistic approach and the Cyclical Model of Supervision, providing a reflective, collaborative and supportive space to explore client work, develop professional confidence and maintain safe, ethical practice. I particularly enjoy working with trainee counsellors and supporting them through their training journey.

Our Process

Our first session is an opportunity to explore what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve. We'll discuss your current difficulties, personal history, family dynamics and any questions you may have, helping us build a deeper understanding of your experiences and the goals you would like to work towards.

Step 1 – Initial Consultation

Step 2 – Understanding You Experiences

Together, we'll begin to explore the experiences, beliefs and coping strategies that may be influencing how you feel, relate to others and view yourself today. This stage is about developing greater understanding and self-awareness.

Step 3 – Making Sense of Patterns

As therapy progresses, we'll explore recurring patterns, attachment experiences and trauma responses where relevant. Alongside therapeutic exploration, I may use psychoeducation to help you better understand your nervous system, coping strategies and emotional responses.

Over time, many clients find they develop greater self-awareness, healthier ways of coping and a stronger sense of self. Therapy is not about erasing the past, but helping you feel less controlled by it and more able to move forward with confidence and choice.

Step 4 – Moving Forward

FAQs

Trauma therapy can benefit you if past experiences continue to affect the way you respond to situations in the present. You may feel stuck in survival mode, experience strong emotional or physical reactions to certain triggers, struggle to feel emotionally safe, or find yourself reacting in ways that feel difficult to understand or control.

How do I know if trauma therapy is right for me?

1

No. There is no pressure to talk about anything before you feel ready. Part of trauma therapy involves understanding how trauma can affect the mind and body, helping you make sense of your responses, rather than repeatedly revisiting difficult memories.

Do I need to talk about my trauma in detail?

Clients attend sessions either weekly or fortnightly. We will review your therapy regularly and discuss whether you would like to continue at the same frequency, reduce sessions over time or work towards ending therapy when the time feels right.

How often should I attend therapy?

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss what has brought you to therapy, explore any concerns you may have, and talk about what you hope to achieve. There is no pressure to share everything immediately. Therapy moves at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
